From motorized lifts to hanging baskets, overhead storage solutions have long been a viable resort for folks who need extra room to stash gear in erstwhile already crowded spaces. If you’re looking for overhead storage you can install along the high parts of the wall instead of ceilings, however, you might want to check out the Zero Gravity Rack.
A wall-mounted rack, you can set it up on an overhead section of the wall for storing bikes, surfboards, and other obtrusive objects out of the way. Unlike other solutions, however, you don’t need to climb a ladder to place or retrieve stuff from it, as it comes with a gas strut system that allows you to simply unlock the rack and pull it down to both load and unload stuff on it, with the entire thing lifting back up on its own as soon as you let go.
The Zero Gravity Rack consists of a metal frame that you mount on the wall, with a selection of hooks for securing whatever gear you’re storing in it. It’s mainly designed for bikes (the base model has a hook for securing one bicycle), with specific add-on hooks you can set up for snowboards, surfboards, and SUPs. Of course, you can also use it to secure other awkwardly-sized gear, although you’ll probably have to experiment to find what works with what setup. It measures 17 x 9 x 33 inches (w x d x h), with a maximum weight capacity of 50 pounds.
A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Zero Gravity Rack. Pledges to reserve a unit starts at $119.
