Why buy a standing desk when you can turn any office chair into one? That’s exactly the argument to be made for the StorkStand, a portable tray that you can attach to the back rest of office chairs to turn them into functional standing workstations.
Forget buying an expensive standing desk, just wind the included strap onto the back rest of your office chair, fold out the leg at the bottom, and secure it in the assembly. That’s it. Because of the simple installation, it can work with around 90% of existing office chairs, including popular premium models from Herman Miller, Knoll, and Steelcase.
The best part? You can use the chair’s adjustment facility to modify the Storkstand standing desk’s height, as well as push it around the office using the chair’s onboard casters. Yep, a standing desk you can take to the next cubicle, the communal printer, or to the pantry. Measuring just 15.5 x 17 x 2.25 inches (w x l x h) and weighing 4.2 pounds, it’s reasonably portable, too — just fold in the leg, then tuck it under your arm or strap it to your backpack to take it during commutes.
When set up on a chair, the table surface can be adjusted to one of three angles, allowing you to find the most comfortable working position. It has enough surface space to fit up to 17-inch laptops, with a built-in cutout that serves as phone dock.
The StorkStand is currently raising funds for a production run on Kickstarter. Pledges to reserve a unit starts at $149.
