Travel mugs are great, letting you enjoy a hot cup of coffee from home while you go about your business on the road. It’s convenient. Only problem is, when you’re done drinking that coffee, you’re still stuck having to carry the same mug throughout the rest of the day. And that’s not convenient. The Smash Cup solves this problem with a collapsible design that lets you slip it in your pocket once you’re finished with the drink.
While you can, of course, spare yourself the hassle of carrying an empty travel mug by buying disposable cups, the cost associated with that can definitely add up over time. Not to mention, it’s wasteful and totally out of sync with the earth-friendly, green-living persona you’ve been cultivating on Facebook.
The Smash Cup is a liquid-tight travel cup that comes with a sealed screw-on lid for holding both hot and cold drinks. It’s styled similar to the to-go disposable cups they use at many coffee chains, rather than a conventional travel mug. Sporting an accordion-style body similar to the Pack-Away Bucket, the cup can be easily collapsed into compact form by simply pushing it down. The lid can still screw onto the flattened cup, so you only need to carry a single item even in its collapsed form.
It measures 5 inches tall when in use and collapses into a 1.75-inch tall disc for putting away. The cup’s chamber can hold up to 12 ounces of your favorite beverage, which should be enough to get you through the daily commute to work. Construction is food-grade silicone.
A Kickstarter campaign is currently running to fund the Smash Cup. Pledges to reserve a unit starts at $15.
