No, it’s not a statement about the celebrities he photographed in the previous years of his career. Instead, Michael Muller’s Sharks Collector’s Edition hardcover is, literally, a portfolio of underwater shark photography. Apparently, the renowned celebrity portrait artist has built up a large collection of images featuring the predators over the last decade and this book collects them all in one place.
Yes, Muller is hardly the first person to photograph sharks (and, no, photos of your flying shark RC plane does not count). He is, however, the first one to do it while illuminating the apex predators with a seven-bulb, 1200-watt plexi-encased strobe lighting rig, allowing him to capture them in an entirely new light. The result is a stunning collection of underwater imagery that’s, quite possibly, unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
Sharks Collector’s Edition is a limited release version of the original book that came out last March. It’s actually a larger XXL version so it should make for a more substantial addition to your coffee table on top of making the pictures more jaw-dropping, although the actual contents are the same. That means, it gets the same acclaimed 334 pages of geographically-arranged shark images, accompanied with thrilling narratives about each trip and the special challenges his team encountered along the way.
And, yes, the actual book is encased inside a distressed metal cage, which should make it quite the lovely display piece. Only 1,000 copies of this limited edition version will be made, each one signed by the photographer.
Available now, Sharks Collector’s Edition is priced at $1,500.
