It’s been just short of two decades since the first Roomba was made. And now, we’ve got Roombas for the bathroom, the lawn, the garden, and a whole host of other places. While the regular Roomba will work just as cleaning the floors of your bedroom, there’s nothing it can do to clean up the place where you actually sleep at night: your bed. That’s where the Rockubot comes in.
No, it won’t pick up crumbs, dirt, and whatever other mess you have strewn around on the bed. You’ll have to get swipe those off from the bed onto the floor and have the Roomba take care of it. Instead, the robot cleans up your sleep surface by getting rid of germs, bacteria, bed bugs, and mites, ensuring your bed is safe from invisible threats that can attack you without your knowledge.
The Rockubot is a UVC sanitizer that uses short-length ultraviolet-C light and ultrasonic waves to eliminate 99.99 percent of bacteria, germs, and mites as it passes over a surface. To ensure thorough cleaning, it’s designed to traverse the entire surface of the bed autonomously using three built-in casters, with 24 integrated sensors allowing it to avoid obstacles and stay inside edges, so it never falls off the side of the bed. The sensors should be smart enough to let it navigate any bed without the need to pre-map the surface, allowing it to easily adapt to different beds and day-to-day changes (sometimes, you just end up leaving stuff on the bed).
It has sanitizing modules installed on both the top and bottom, so you can set it loose under the blanket to have it clean both the mattress and the underside of the blanket simultaneously (it only activates the top sanitizers when it detects it’s underneath a layer). That’s right, it clean all surfaces between the sheets, so it can sanitize through your comforters, bedspreads, mattress sheets, and covers if you let it do multiple passes.
The Rockubot is equipped with a 5200mAh battery that can keep the robot running for up to three hours, which should be plenty enough to keep it juiced for multiple days of sanitizing your bed. It comes with a snap-on magnetic cover that goes on the underside of the device, giving it a convenient handle on one side to facilitate grip. This allows you to use it as a handheld sanitizer, so you can easily disinfect your pillows, your phone, and even that face mask you’ve been wearing each time you leave the house during these unusual times. Measuring a compact 5.9 x 2.5 inches (diameter x height), it’s extremely portable, too, so you can use it to clean your camp bed, your hotel bed, and whatever other bedding you use when you leave your abode.
Just in case all that’s not enough, it actually integrates a Qi-compatible wireless charger on top, allowing you to use it as a power bank, in case you need a charger in the bedroom, since you leave your usual one at home. They even threw in an onboard speaker, just in case you need extra gear to pump those tunes in the bedroom.
The Rockubot is available now, priced at $149.99.
