Ever stacked two or more pillows together, so you can comfortably prone on your stomach while you use your laptop, read a book, or watch TV in bed? Yeah, we all do it. Problem is, traditional pillows just aren’t designed to support the position, making it difficult, awkward, and a likely cause for posture that can lead to problems later on. The Prone Cushion is a pillow specifically designed to support that position.
That’s right, they made a pillow that’s custom-shaped for lying on your stomach, so you can have your body properly supported in that position instead of relying on your elbows to keep your upper body raised. Whether you’re watching Netflix on a tablet in bed, using a laptop on the couch, or assembling LEGOs on the carpet, this thing lets you sprawl out in a prone position in the most comfortable way imaginable.
The Prone Cushion is a ramp-shaped pillow that, the outfit claims, has been engineered to support your entire upper body from the waist up. Basically, it holds up your upper body, so you can lie on your stomach without having to use your arms and elbows to keep it elevated. Construction is high-density memory foam at the core and soft memory foam on top of it, allowing it to strike a good balance of softness and rigidity, with an anti-bacterial mesh inner cover and soft-on-the-skin suede fabric on top. To accommodate different sizes of individuals, it comes with two sets of height adjustable legs that snap onto the base using magnets, allowing you to equip it for one of three heights.
Because of the memory foam material, it’s able to contour to the shape of your body, allowing it to support your torso in a way that’s tailored to your individual needs. An extended section at the lower end is meant to cover the pelvic bones, so you can lie down on hard floors without any discomfort, while an extra-thick and extra-soft section along the highest point offers a convenient place to rest your neck and chin.
The Prone Cushion has 140 built-in air cells that allows air to freely circulate within the pillow, which should keep its overall temperature low even when you lie prone on it for long periods. While designed specifically for proning, the pillow can also be used to elevate your upper body when you want to lie on your back and on your side a lot better than stack pile of regular pillows. Heck, they claim you can even use it against the wall (with the tall side at the base) and for yoga.
It measures 25.6 x 9.8 x 12.6 inches (length x height x width), with a total weight of 5.3 pounds, which should make it small and light enough to easily move around the house, so you can use it in the living room, the bedroom, and everywhere else in between. Features include a machine-washable outer cover, charcoal-infused memory foam (so it’s naturally resistant to mold, mildew, and other germs), two color options (midnight blue and beige), and a luxury option that includes a fancy cover with leather detailing and gold zippers.
A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Prone Cushion. You can reserve a unit for pledges starting at $129.
