Not happy with the pictures you take of your coworkers sleeping in the office? Get one of those mobile spotlight things and use it to brighten up the scene. If you’d rather set a different mood with different colors of lighting, though, a spotlight won’t be enough — you’ll need something like the Photojojo Kick.
Instead of being stuck with just a bright white light, you can literally illuminate the scene with all the colors of the rainbow. Whether you want the scene swimming in a cool shade of blue, a fiery red glow, or a subdued hint of yellow, this thing is all you’ll need.
The Photojojo Kick is a pocket-sized camera light that lets you set the mood with different colors, shade and intensity. It comes with a 5×8 matrix of LEDs so it’s strong enough to properly illuminate a scene, with a color temperature that ranges from 2,500 to 10,000 Kelvin. Integrated into the lighting unit is an iPhone cradle (so you can take selfies with the light directly blasting on your face), a tripod mount (so you can have it lighting a corner hands-free), a USB-rechargeable 1750mAh battery, and a WiFi radio for communicating with an accompanying iPhone app (sorry, no Android version).
Measuring 4.5 x 2.5 x 1 inches, it’s about the same size as your smartphone (unless you have one of those giant phablets), so it should slot into your pocket without any problems. It comes with onboard controls, although they’re a bit limited — if you want fine-tuned settings, you’ll need to use the app, which offers a more detailed visual interface.
Aside from photography, we’re guessing this can work for any illumination task, whether you’re trying to set the mood in the living room on a hot date, fixing a pipe under the sink (probably not necessary for artsy pipes), or searching for that spare key you dropped in the backyard. The Photojojo Kick is available now, priced at $179.
