Nutribullet Flip Puts a Battery-Powered Blender Inside an Insulated Travel Mug

It looks like any ordinary travel mug. You get the vacuum-insulated side walls, secure lid, and flip-top opening for easily taking a sip. Except, the Nutribullet Flip actually integrates a blender inside, allowing you to whip up smoothies on the go.

That’s right, this travel mug comes with a built-in electric blender, so you can use the blades to vigorously mix, chop, and stir your drink ingredients on the fly. Want to make a fruit shake from package fruits you just picked up from the grocery? Not a problem. Need help ensuring your protein shake gets mixed smoothly with none of those annoying clumps? Forget the shaker bottle, this thing will do the trick each time out.

The Nutribullet Flip is a 20oz travel mug that doesn’t look all that different from other insulated travel cups out there. What sets it apart, though, is an integrated battery-powered blender mechanism in the lid, which it uses to chop up and mix whatever ingredients you throw inside the cup. Specifically, it houses an 11.1-volt high-torque motor to send the integrated blades whirring, while a three-cell lithium-ion battery provides the necessary power. According to the outfit, the battery holds enough charge to provide 14 30-second blending cycles, although we’re not sure how well it can blend ice and solid foods in a brief 30-second span. Hopefully, it’s strong enough to do a halfway decent job.

The blender has a readily visible tactile button on the upper part that activates the blending function, which, the outfit claims, requires a forceful press to activate, ensuring it’s not prone to accidental activations. When removed from the cup, the blender portion of the lid also won’t activate even when the button is pressed to prevent any exposure (accidental or otherwise) to open spinning blades. Simply put, they integrated a bunch of safety features into the design.

The Nutribullet Flip does require you to flip the whole thing over when blending, since the blades are situated at the bottom of the lid and that’s the only way to get the ingredients to pass through those blades. It’s probably best to set it down on a surface and hold it by the sides to ensure it doesn’t keel over, as well, since we imagine holding it in hand while blending won’t be very comfortable. Sadly, there’s only one speed for the blender, so you won’t be able to boost it if you’re not quite getting the power you need to properly chop any ingredient in your drink.

According to Nutribullet, the vacuum insulation on the cup and the base allows it to keep your blended drinks cold for up to 24 hours. There’s no rating for hot drinks, which, we guess, makes sense, since this is a blender and people use blenders for shakes and similarly slushy concoctions. There’s also a self-cleaning mode, by the way, which you can use by adding water and dish soap to the cup, then activating the blending action for one cycle.
