Steel, steel and more steel — I don’t know how much better you can describe the Nixon 51-30 Chronograph than with those words. With the entire timepiece built out of raw steel with no colorful paint job to ruin the stark metal appearance, it’s easily one of the simpler yet attractive watch designs we’ve seen lately.
The case is steel; the face is steel; the knobs are steel; heck, even the band is steel. All of them with a very raw, brushed finish that only accentuates the inherently industrial appeal.
The Nixon 51-30 Chronograph features Japanese quartz chrono movement, with the hour and minute hands wrought from the same metal as the rest of the construction. Of course, the plastic seconds hand ticks me off a bit, but I can live with that. It has 300-meter water resistance.
Apart from being made from stainless steel, the case features a hardened mineral crystal glass and an external rotating bezel (made from…guess what). The watch band has double locking clasp and, naturally, all the solid steel weight your arm can handle.
Watchismo has the Nixon 51-30 Chronograph available for preorder, with shipments slated to begin at the end of March. This appears to be a limited edition release, so better get yours while it’s early. Price is $450.
