Fizzy drinks are great, so much so that soda makers have become a staple in many homes. Now that you can enjoy your carbonated drinks any time you want, you want to experiment with other drinks and nitrogen-infused beverages definitely make for a fresh curiosity. Only thing is, there aren’t really many nitro drinks out there. Sure, nitro cold brew coffee is pretty popular these days and you can occasionally find some nitro tea on the menu, too, but we haven’t really seen that much else other than Nitro Pepsi, which they’re calling a “draft cola.” Maybe, you can start experimenting with your own nitro frothy nitro concoctions at home using the NitroPress DS.
No, it’s not the first dedicated device to let you make nitro drinks at home. In fact, NitroPress themselves have previously released a small appliance for that. However, this new machine can infuse drinks with nitrogen without the need for a can of compressed gas, essentially pulling nitrogen out of the air and putting it in your drink. That means, you can make as much nitro-infused beverages you want without dealing with buying new cartridges every few weeks or months, making it even more convenient than your favorite soda maker.
The NitroPress DS is a countertop appliance that actually resembles a standard soda maker. It works similarly, too, since you basically put your drink in a bottle, put it on the appliance, and allow the device to charge it with gas using the spout on top. Except, instead of releasing carbon dioxide, it injects the drink with nitrogen gas, which makes whatever drink you put in smoother, sweeter, and frothier, making for an entirely new beverage experience.
According to the outfit, charging any drink with nitro gas only takes anywhere from five to seven seconds, so you can literally infuse a big load of drinks in no time. It’s easy to use, too requiring you to just press a single button on top for the entire five-to-seven-second duration, similar to how you infuse with soda makers. Granted, we have no idea how infusing anything other than cold brew coffee with nitrogen actually tastes, but it should make for a fun time experimenting.
The NitroPress DS is a compact appliance, measuring just 6.4 x 14.4 x 10.1 inches (width x depth x height), so you should have no problem finding a spot for it in the kitchen countertop. Heck, you can probably put it next to the soda maker, since they occupy, pretty much, a similar footprint. It’s made from cast aluminum, so it should look nice sitting on that counter, too. The machine itself doesn’t actually need cleaning (maybe just wipe down dust every now and then), but the included container, which you can use as a serving vessel for the drink, will require cleaning. It is dishwasher-safe, though, so you can simply throw it in with the rest of the dirty dishes.
A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the NitroPress DS. You can reserve a unit for pledges starting at $374.
