Power adapters that you can use to plug into sockets in different countries are nothing new. All of them, however, tend to be bulky and awkwardly-sized – a direct consequence of having to hold different types of plugs in a single enclosure. A new universal travel adapter called the Micro changes that.
Like other universal adapters, the contraption is compatible with the power outlets in over 150 countries, ensuring you can safely plug in your devices, no matter what country you’re from. Unlike them, the darn thing measures just 6 x 3.1 x 2.6 cm (width x depth x height), ensuring it can fit comfortably even in a pocket on your favorite trousers.
The Micro universal adapter manages to achieve the compact size by using a clever design that bundles the round and flat plugs along the same area. The flat plugs can even be angled for compatibility with countries that use such a configuration, with levers on each side of the adapter allowing you to deploy and lock each set of plugs in place. There’s also a modular pin that you can snap into the adapter for use in the UK and 47 other countries. Features include a pin cover (for safely covering the third pins of any plug you insert), an integrated replaceable 6.3A fuse (so it can handle power surges on its own), and a weight of just 40 grams.
A Kickstarer campaign is currently running for the Micro. You can reserve a unit for pledges starting at £23.
