Herman Miller has long made some of the best office chairs in the world, keeping workers the world over comfortable while keeping away the posture-destroying repercussions of the office-bound sedentary lifestyle. Truth is, those same office chairs will probably benefit PC gamers the same way. Somehow, though, clever marketing has pushed that demographic away from standard office chairs towards dedicated gaming chairs, many of which seem like a cross between the traditional office chair and racing bucket seats. To attract that growing crowd of FPS, MOBA, and battle royale players into their fold, the outfit decided to make dedicated furniture specifically for the Twitch generation in the form of the Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody Gaming Chair.
If you remember hearing of Embody before, that’s because it’s one of the outfit’s staple office chairs, originally designed by Bill Stumpf and Eric Weber. Well, they took that chair and fine-tuned it for the needs of the gaming crowd, combining its proven science-backed ergonomics with the needs of people who drink Red Bull and eat Cheetos while holding a mouse and keyboard all day. Or something like that.
The Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody Gaming Chair is, basically, a gamer version of the original chair. It has the same highly-customizable fit, courtesy of multiple supports behind the back rest and the underside of the seat, all of which adjust based on how you move while in the chair. Yes, all those fancy connecting stuff behind the backrest and under the seat are designed to optimize pressure distribution on the body while promoting natural posture alignment, ensuring you’re supported in the best way possible, regardless of how awkwardly you’ve situated yourself in it.
Need the backrest to curve a little differently to go with your spine’s unique curvature? Just reach for the knob on the back and turn it until you find the ideal fit. Other adjustable elements include seat height, arm height, arm width (yep, you can widen or narrow it to your liking), recline, tilt tension, and even seat depth. Suffice to say, this is an insanely customizable chair.
The Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody Gaming Chair also uses the original’s multi-layered seat, combining two spring layers and one mat layer. For this gaming iteration, though, they threw in an extra layer of foam on the seat and backrest, complete with cooling foam technology so you won’t have to physically sweat even when you decide to go full try-hard and play like a sweaty nerd with all your might.
The chair is covered in a 100 percent polyester fabric that’s been tested for abrasion resistance, seam strength, UV resistance, color retention, and flame resistance, with the base and frame all cut in powder-coated die-cast aluminum. It uses 2.5-inch diameter casters that are meant to slide well on hard floors and carpeted surfaces alike. Maximum supported weight is 300 pounds.
The Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody Gaming Chair is available now, priced at $1495.
