Back in 2001, the Transformers toy line came out with an Optimus Prime and an Ultra Magnus that can combine to form the even bigger Omega Prime. As you can imagine, it’s one of the most beloved toys among longtime fans. To kick off the franchise’s 40th anniversary this year, they’re bringing it back in the form of the HasLab Transformers: Legacy Robots in Disguise 2001 Omega Prime..
Yes, they’re bringing back a pair of awesome Autobots as they appeared back in 2001, making this a real treat for longtime fans who probably also geeked out at the original toys early in the century. Even better, it allows you to recreate the battle for the Matrix of Leadership that pit both characters against each other, which culminated in the two forming the Autobot Combiner that was stronger than the sum of its parts.
The HasLab Transformers: Legacy Robots in Disguise 2001 Omega Prime actually comes with three figures, namely Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, and Autobot Bluebolts, as they appeared in 2001’s Transformers: Robots in Disguise. That means, you get the version of Optimus Prime that turns into a firetruck with a back half that’s meant to connect to the included 15-inch command center. In firetruck mode, you get access to a working articulated ladder that’s sized to be used by Titan Master figures and four rotating missiles housed inside the ladder. In robot mode, the figure stands 8.5 inches tall, with integrated facilities for holding the included blaster accessory and two Matrix of Leadership accessories. You can also break apart the command center and attach it to the figure, essentially creating a 12.5-inch tall Optimus Prime Super Mode.
The taller Ultra Magnus figure stands 11.5 inches tall and comes with enhanced articulation around the ankles for more dynamic poses. It transforms into a car carrier trailer with a vac metal front grille, a hot foil-stamped Autobot emblem, and a dual-level vehicle storage large enough to fit three Deluxe Class Transformers in their vehicle alts.
The HasLab Transformers: Legacy Robots in Disguise 2001 Omega Prime lets you combine those two Autobots to form Omega Prime, a 13.5-inch tall armed with an even taller 23.5-inch Matrix Blade. Just like in the original, the combined form is commenced by the two robots shaking hands, which fires off the rest of the sequence that creates the ultra-powerful Autobot. According to the product page, it retains the same combination sequence as the original from 2001, albeit with reinforced structural support that should hold up better to the multiple times you’re going to put them both together.
Lastly, the set includes the 5.75-inch tall Autobot Bluebots, which can transform into six different kinds of weapons that you can mount onto the shoulders of Omega Prime. Additionally, the figure can be broken up into different parts and stored inside compartments built into the Ultra Magnus figure. That way, all components of the Omega Prime are fitted right onto the two Autobots, allowing them to transform into their battle-ready giant form at any time.
The HasLab Transformers: Legacy Robots in Disguise 2001 Omega Prime is currently crowdfunding on the Hasbro Pulse website. It’s slated to ship in the fall of 2025, priced at $249.99.
