Survivor: The Tribe Has Spoken Brings Classic Outwit, Outplay, and Outlast Gameplay to the Tabletop

It’s hard to believe, but Survivor is still on TV after 24 years. Heck, they even just finished their 47th season right before Christmas. Suffice to say, there’s something about the show’s “outwit, outplay, outlast” gameplay that continues to feel fresh among reality show fans. Now, you can enjoy that same gameplay at home with Survivor: The Tribe Has Spoken.

Created by Exploding Kittens, the card game brings the long-running social strategy gameplay straight to your tabletop, so you can scheme, betray, and vote out your family and friends right from the comfort of the living room. Whether you’re a Survivor superfan, a casual enjoyer, or just a guy who enjoys a good tabletop game, this thing should make for a fun addition to your game night roster.

Survivor: The Tribe Has Spoken is a tabletop card game designed from the ground up to incorporate all sorts of familiar elements from the series. For instance, you get player cards based on some of the show’s most memorable castaways over the years, such as Boston Rob, Ozzy Lusth, and two-time winner Sandra Diaz Twine, while recreating the iconic Tribal Council, where players decide who to eliminate using blind votes. Naturally, there are immunity idol cards players can deal to turn the results of Tribal Council votes on its head.

A number of playable cards in the game are lifted off mechanics directly from the show. These include “Reward Challenges,” where you team up and strategize with other players to win a prize (no food or spa treatment, just in-game advantages), as well as “Sorry for You,” which you can bust out to prevent another player from stealing your cards. There’s even a “Spy Shack” card that mimics the spy shack Tony Vlachos created to secretly listen in on other players’ conversations. In this case, though, it lets you peek at an opposing player’s cards and even steal any one of them that you like.

Survivor: The Tribe Has Spoken also has Bonus cards that will let players steal and manipulate votes. There are even cards that will let you declare yourself the Tribal Council Leader, if that’s a thing that can play out to your advantage. Through all this, you can form secret alliances with other players, betray alliances and engage in all sorts of deceptions to gain an upper hand. According to Survivor host, Jeff Probst, who co-designed the game, they really wanted to make a card game that mirrored the Survivor experience. Based on those things, it really does feel like the card game managed to capture the Survivor mechanics, down to the fact that, at the end, the ousted players will be the ones deciding who they want to win the game.

The game is designed for three to six players, which is a lot smaller than your typical Survivor season. It makes sense, of course, since you’re not going to want to play a card game that lasts an entire month. Instead, games take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to play out, which should make it quite a fun one to grab during game night.
