We’re quite impressed with Dyson’s AM10 humidifier, which doubles as a cooling fan and air purifier, effectively filling the room with moist, clean air that keeps you cool during hot weather. Problem is, it’s a hassle to maintain with its awkward water tank opening and complex monthly cleaning requirements. Yeah, it’s no fun, prompting some folks who have tried it to go back to their traditional humidifiers. The Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool takes that old design and improves on it in every way.
Like its predecessor, it reinforces the humidifier with a cooling fan and an air purifier, so it will clean, cool, and improve moisture levels in the air the whole time it’s running, making any room it’s in feel just that much more comfortable. This time around, they seem to have taken previous issues and fixed them, turning out a product that’s just as effective while being far easier to use and maintain over time.
Billed as a “multi-functional machine for whole room air treatment,” the Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool combines multiple technologies found in the outfit’s different products. Chief among these is the Air Multiplier system, which gathers the surrounding air and puts it back out either as a breeze that easily circulates around the room or a direct stream of air for those days you need the extra cooling, while activated HEPA filters remove up to 99.9 percent of gases and allergens in the air. It puts those two systems together with a humidifier system that draws water from the built-in tank, sanitizes it using UV light to kill bacteria, and turns it into airborne microscopic particles to add much-needed moisture to the air it puts out.
We know, the old model did all that. For this iteration, though, they made it easier to fill the one-gallon water chamber, which now comes with a large opening that allows you to place it under a faucet for quick refilling. While cleaning still requires you to disassemble the machine, you only need to remove the 3D evaporator (the thing thagt turns water into airborne moisture), drop it in the integrated water tank, and add citric acid before reassembling the machine and turning on the automatic cleaning cycle. Once that’s done, simply reassemble it, add water in the tank, and use it like normal. According to the outfit, the one gallon of water that can fit in the tank should last it for up to 36 hours of humidification.
The Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool, of course, comes with built-in sensors that can show you the prevailing air quality in the room in real-time, so you can know exactly what kind of improvements are happening as you’re using it. It can be controlled from the companion app, as well as using voice control via a compatible speaker that runs either Alexa or Siri. Other features include an onboard display (that changes to be more inconspicuous during nighttime), a sleep timer, 10 speed settings, and the ability to direct the air within a 90-degree angle. Dimensions are 8.7 x 36.4 inches (diameter x height).
The Dyson Pure Humidify+Cool is available now, priced at $799.99.
