Some of us ride motorcycles for the speed thrills, some because they’re cool as heck. Others ride them for adventure on two wheels. The 2014 BMW R1200 GS Adventure is aimed at that last group.
The newest model in BMW Motorrad’s expedition motorcycle line, the vehicle combines the touring capabilities of the R1200 GS with serious off-road and endurance powers. Whether you’re living on the road finding your place in the world, exploring a backwoods trail, or following your favorite arena band on tour around America, this motorcycle should make for a perfectly suitable companion.
The BMW R1200 GS Adventure is powered by a liquid-cooled 1170cc twin-cylinder boxer engine that puts out 125 hp at 7750 rpm and 92 pound-feet of torque at 6500 rpm. To improve riding comfort even on off road terrain, it gets heavier flywheel mass, an extra vibration damper in the powertrain, and higher ground clearance (half an inch compared to the standard R1200 GS), with a larger 7.9-gallon fuel tank for even longer rides.  It features a torsionally-resistant tubular steel spaceframe chassis, with modified geometry for sharper handling and a restyled bodywork that gives the ride an even more masculine edge.
Features include ABS, Automatic Stability Control, two riding modes (Rain and Road) , a larger windshield, additional air flaps, adjustable foot-operated levers for the brake and gearshift, and extra 0.8 inches of spring travel both front and rear. Options include three extra riding modes, Dynamic ESA (electronic suspension adjustment), onboard computer, and a wide range of accessories.
Pricing for the BMW R1200 GS Adventure starts at $17,000.
