We’re big fans of the Echo Show, as it adds video playback, visual information, and even video calls with auto-tracking to Alexa’s arsenal of useful tools. If you frequently use it for streaming movies and shows, though, you’ve probably felt underwhelmed by the limited size. Of course, you can always do your Prime Video marathon on a proper TV instead, but if you insist on using a display with Alexa’s talents onboard, you will want to check out the Amazon Echo Show 15.
The largest Echo Show to date, the device gives you a handy 15-inch screen that you can set up as a large display frame for the living room, a small kitchen TV, or a bedside display. Want to use it to display photos and artwork? That 15-inch panel sounds perfect for the job. How about a way to watch videos while doing food prep in the kitchen? Works for that, too. Need a display you can use as a digital message board for the family? This will do the trick, all while bringing all the handy features found in other Echo products on top of it.
The Amazon Echo Show 15 is designed for either wall-mounting or placing on a stand (available separately), so you can hang it up out of the way or place it on a desk somewhere, with the ability to work in both portrait and landscape, so you can orient it in either manner. Since this is much larger than other Echo Show displays, Amazon decided to redesign the home screen, giving you more options in configuring its appearance using a variety of widgets. As such, you can use it as a simple picture frame (for photos and artwork), a family message board, or an all-in-one information panel for seeing various items at a quick glance, from weather forecasts and calendar schedules to package tracking and the status of individual smart home devices.
A visual ID feature allows it to recognize each person in your home, which prompts it to refresh the home screen with the individual’s personalized information. And yes, visual ID is optional, so you don’t have to register your face on Amazon’s servers if that’s not quite your thing.
The Amazon Echo Show 15 has a 15.6-inch display with a 1080p resolution, a 5MP camera on the corner, stereo speakers with two 1.6-inch drivers, and a mic array, with physical buttons on the side allowing you to turn off the camera, turn off the mic, and adjust volume without having to use voice commands. As with other Echo Shows, it has various video streaming options onboard, including Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, and more, although YouTube remains the glaring omission, along with all the other intelligent assistant features you can get from other Echo devices. Dimensions, by the way, are 15.8 x 9.9 x 1.4 inches (width x height x thickness), so while it’s big, it’s not that big that you’ll find a hard time fitting it in most media cabinets, kitchen counters, or bedroom nightstands.
