We don’t know if the Alpha Shovel is really the most badass shovel ever made. With its oversized head, durable construction, and reasonably portable design, however, it very well seems capable of performing a whole load of badass things.
An all-terrain, all-season shovel, it’s designed to handle heavy duty tasks, whether you’re clearing snow, moving gravel, or digging a hole to bury all your prized treasures. It also comes with a telescoping handle that allows it to pack down into a much smaller tool that you can throw into the boot of the car for taking to any job site.
The Alpha Shovel has a large head (12 x 25 x 4 inches) cut in 2.5mm aircraft-grade aluminum that, according to creator DMOS, won’t deform, bend, or crack, no matter how hard-packed any snow or dirt you’re digging into. A clear-coated sandblasted finish prevents snow from sticking on the surface, with sharp serrated teeth that will break through ice and hard-packed snow. It has a handle that can be adjusted from 18 inches to 56.5 inches, allowing you to get whatever leverage a job requires, with a wide Nylatron D-handle providing a strong grip.
NRS strap holes on the head allow you to hang it on any hook, as well as secure it to expedition packs and duffles, with built-in gliders to keep it from scratching the wall. It weighs five pounds.
A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Alpha Shovel. You can reserve one for pledges starting at $99.
