Real grown-ups play scrabble, too. And when you’re dressed to the hilt, drinking premium wine and chomping on gourmet hors d’oeuvres, gathering around a $10 Scrabble set from Walmart can feel a little off. You need something classier, something like the A-1 Scrabble Designer Edition Board.
Fashioned by Andrew Capener, the board isn’t just a more elegant version of the classic game. It’s a veritable bait for typography geeks, too, since Andrew’s plan is to offer customization for the fonts used on the tiles (yep, a Scrabble set with your favorite annoying fonts sound lovely).
The A-1 Scrabble Designer Edition Board uses six different panels that can be separated for neater storage when not in play. Each rectangular slab comes with magnetized edges so the playing area stays intact even when things get a little rowdy, with slip-free cork slathered on the bottom. A shelved storage box is included for holding all the pieces when putting away. Everything, including the tiles, is made of walnut.
From the sound of it, Andrew appears to be working to get the set produced and is encouraging everyone interested to sign up for further information. It might take a while, though, considering all the licenses he’ll need to secure to produce a board for the game.
