Some people are fine dumping instant coffee in hot water for their regular dose of caffeine. Others prefer going to their local coffee shops to pick up some barista-concocted fare. And then there are those who grind their own beans, go through laborious brewing steps, and do a whole host of other stuff. While anyone who enjoys a good cup of coffee, regardless of where they stand in that scale, can appreciate one of these coffee-related gifts, we imagine the latter group is going to enjoy it most.
Here are some cool gifts for the caffeine-fueled coffee nerds in your life.
Uncommon Grounds: The History of Coffee and How it Transformed Our World
For the coffee nerd who likes to curl up with a good book in hand, this recent paperback release explores the history of coffee, from its discovery in ancient Abyssinia to the changes in coffee culture over the decades to the rise of quality-obsessed modern connoisseurs. To put it simply, everything you can imagine wanting to know about coffee is here, expressed through an entertaining mix of anecdotes, character study, and social history. For someone who’s truly obsessed about coffee, we can’t imagine a more compelling read.
Aeropress Go
After a decade and a half of being one of the most popular ways of making coffee on-the-go, Aeropress finally gets updated for 2019. Don’t worry, not much has changed, so it still makes coffee with the same convenient function as the original, with the new design changes going towards making it even more portable than before. How portable? Well, the entire thing now comes with a mug that you can use to enjoy the drink, which also doubles as a nesting case for the rest of the components. Basically, you can now carry a coffee brewer while taking up the space of a single mug in your pack. Considering this is coming out first week of December, there’s a good chance your recipient won’t have one, too, making this a gift your coffee-loving friend is likely to appreciate.
KitchenAid Cold Brew Pot
Offering one of the simplest, most convenient ways to keep a supply of cold brew coffee at home, this glass-and-metal vessel can hold up to 14 servings of coffee concentrate and keep it tasting fresh for up to 14 days in the fridge. Just put some grounds on the included steeper, pour water on the main compartment, and leave it to steep while chilling in the fridge. Once it’s steeped, you can use the spigot to draw 2oz of coffee concentrate from the pot, which you then mix with 6oz of your desired ratio of milk, water, and ice for a delicious caffeinated beverage. This is the 28-ounce pot, by the way, although they also make a bigger 38-ouncer for those friends who drink through coffee like it’s cold beer at a college party.

Kinto Travel Tumbler
We know, a travel tumbler isn’t exactly an original gift. It is, however, a genuinely useful one, as there’s a good chance your recipient will end up using it at some point. That’s especially true when you give them a good-looking tumbler like this 17oz. stainless steel vacuum bottle, which can keep your coffee hot or cold for as long as six hours (just make sure to keep the leak-proof lid on). It has a flow-regulating polypropylene cap, so you don’t accidentally spill while trying to get a sip, while a 360-degree lip makes drinking feel very natural.
Coldwave Chiller
Sometimes, you don’t have the patience to wait for that coffee to steep while chilling it in the fridge. You want your cold brew now. While blast chilling is the best way to do that, it’s just not viable for residential use. For folks who want fast iced coffee at home, this simple but clever solution may be the best way to go. To use it, simply fill the insert with water and put it in the freezer for at least an hour. At any point in the day when you’re hankering for a cold brew, simply brew a regular pot and pour 16oz of coffee into the included pitcher. From there, you take the insert from the fridge and place it in the pitcher for two minutes, during which it will cool down that piping hot coffee into chilled temperatures. Take out the insert after that and you’re set, ready to pour cold coffee into your favorite cup. The downside? You’ll have to freeze the insert again to make another batch, so maybe buy multiple inserts for those folks you really like.

FrankOne Cold Brewer
While the Coldwave can turn out a decent cold brew, it isn’t likely to mirror the fancy qualities of proper, hours-steeped cold brew coffee. If your friend is the sort that cares about viscosity and total dissolved solid levels (you know, an actual coffee nerd), this fast-working cold brewer should make for a more suitable gift. Using a vacuum to pull water through a bed of ground coffee, this battery-powered device can crank out a full-bodied cup in around six minutes, making it a great way to enjoy a proper cold brew without the long wait. It also doesn’t use disposable filters (it has a reusable metal mesh), making it even more convenient.
Espro Coffee French Press P3
This update on the classic French press uses a double micro-filter to eliminate grit much better than your typical press, resulting in a cup of coffee that, its makers claim, is much smoother than you will normally get. Those filter sections, by the way, are surrounded by a silicone lip that creates a vacuum seal of the area, ensuring even extraction. There are plenty of other commendable design details, too, such as an insulated lid to keep the heat in, a removable handle cage to make cleaning easy, and a thick glass body to let you see all the action inside. If you’re thinking of buying someone a French press, might as well make it this one.
Leverpresso
A portable espresso maker, this compact lever machine can apply nine bars of pressure and crank out a delicious shot of espresso in just three minutes. And yes, it genuinely produces creamy, high quality espresso. Yes, a lever machine is a little more complicated than other portable brewers out there, but it is simple enough to use that anyone can get a good feel for using this thing after a few trial runs at home. If your recipient loves good espressos, it’s really hard to find a better portable device that you can use to quickly crank out shot after shot.
Bonsenkitchen Electric Milk Frother
Got a friend who likes their coffee with heavy milk frothing on top? Get them this handheld frother, which can create a coat of creamy foam in just 20 seconds of whisking. Powered using two AA batteries, it will start whisking at the push of a button, so all you have to do is keep the stainless steel whisk in place while it quickly turns that milk into a creamy froth for topping on your cappuccino, latte, or hot chocolate.

Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle
Granted, we haven’t tested many products in this category, but if you want a spot-on gift, this electric pour-over kettle won’t disappoint. For one, it’s easily one of the best-looking things you can have in the kitchen. More than that, though, its variable heat control allows you to select the ideal temperature between 135 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit for brewing any type of coffee, while a HOLD mode can keep the temperature stable for an entire hour, allowing you to keep that coffee at the same desirable temperature for the next 60 minutes. It even has a “brew stopwatch” to time the coffee extraction, while the extra-long spout enables a precise pour-over flow rate, so you never accidentally spill out too much of the good stuff.

OXO Brew Conical Burr Coffee Grinder
For that dedicated coffee nerd you genuinely care about, this coffee grinder can make a much-appreciated replacement for whatever grinder they currently use, with its built-in scale and automatic shutoff able to get you a precise amount of ground beans at any time. It has 38 settings for fineness and coarseness, so your friend can literally geek out trying to find out which grind works best for whatever kind of coffee drink. For the less dedicated coffee nerd, you can even specify how many cups of coffee you plan to make and it will grind just the exact amount to make as many cups. It has a hopper tha holds up to 16oz of coffee beans, while the container for the grounds can carry up to 125 grams.
