Yes, 12 different food items (well, technically 11), which makes them really hard to remember, much less plan meals around, which, we guess, is one of the reasons he decided to create this cookbook. And, no, beer isn’t one of those healthy food items.
If you’re curious about those twelve items, they consist of beans, berries, cruciferous vegetables, greens, flaxseeds, nuts, turmeric (and other spices to a lesser degree), whole grains, beverages, other fruits, other vegetables, and exercise. Obviously, it’s going to be pushing it to expect anyone to change their diets into one consisting of all those overnight, but with the help of the book, the hope is that you might be able to start integrating them piece by piece until it becomes a regular habit.
In the How Not to Die Cookbook, Dr. Graeger and co-author Gene Stone enlist the help of Robin Robertson, a former chef and author of over 20 cookbooks, to help design the recipes. As such, these are actual professional recipes put together by someone who knows her way around the kitchen, ensuring you’ll turn out delicious grub if you follow them to the letter. Each recipe included in the book’s 272 pages, by the way, comes with easy-to-follow instructions, along with beautiful photographs that should inspire you to make them for dinner tonight (and, hopefully, for many nights to come).
Can you really add years to your life using this recipes? Considering the science-based approach they took in the first book and the impressive evidence supporting its claims, there’s a good chance it just might. Besides, if you’ve been looking to include more healthy items in your diet (we all really should), having a cookbook built around food that’s been scientifically proven to be the healthiest around doesn’t sound so bad, does it?
