Sony has never been much of a powerhouse in the smartphone category, but you can never accuse them of making underwhelming hardware. Take, for instance, their newest flagship, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, which we can only describe as being absolutely over-the-top.
It all starts with the display. While 1080p has, for all intents and purposes, more than enough details for a device that fits in your pocket, Sony’s latest smartphone packs a 5.5-inch 4K panel. Oh yeah, it’s HDR-compatible, too, so you can watch 4K HDR content in all its vivid colors.
On the camera front, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium takes things up a notch with a 1/2.3” Exmor RS sensor in the rear, which boasts 19 megapixel stills, 4K video recording, 960 fps slow-motion video capture, and five-axis digital image stabilization, while it gets a 13 megapixel low-light sensor out front for taking high-res selfie shots. Seriously, this is as high-spec a phone as we think there’s ever been. Everything is powered by a top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM, ensuring this can handle any and every Android app imaginable.
Since all that precious hardware needs suitable protection, the whole thing is water-resistant, dust-proof, and reinforced with Gorilla Glass 5 both front and back, ensuring it can rough it up anywhere. Other features include 64GB of storage, microSDXC support (up to 256GB), a 3230 mAh battery, PS4 Remote Play, and full support for high-res audio playback.
No exact pricing or release dates have been announced, but you can bet the Sony Xperia XZ Premium will likely get a fittingly premium price tag.
