Ladies and gentlemen, this is the 2015 Twin Turbo Ferrari California T. And, yes, that’s T as in turbocharged, making it the first forced-induction Ferrari since the iconic F40 from 1987.
A twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine delivers power under the hood, boasting direct injection, twin-scroll turbines, and a three-piece cast exhaust manifold. Putting out an impressive 552 hp at 7500 rpm and 557 lb-ft of torque at a modest 4750, it helps push the car to top speeds of 195 mph and a 0 to 60 of 3.6 seconds. Â According to Ferrari, the zero turbo lag engine doesn’t just make the new California model faster, but also more efficient (up to 15% less fuel consumption) and cleaner than its predecessor.
The entry-level Ferrari didn’t just get a freshly-turbocharged powerplant for this iteration, the 2015 Twin Turbo Ferrari California T shows up with an extensive body makeover, too. Out front, it wears a new bumper, a redesigned grille, a new hood with dual air outlets, and curvy air intakes, while more pronounced air extractors lifted off the 50s-era 250 Testa Rossa adorn the sides. It’s lower and sleeker while retaining the shape of the outgoing model, complete with a folding hardtop that can disappear in just 14 seconds. Inside, the cabin lays decked in semi-aniline leather, with a new 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a host of console buttons inspired by the F12 Berlinetta.
The 2015 Twin Turbo Ferrari California T will be open for orders come March once it gets an official launch at the Geneva Motor Show. Final price is unannounced, but expect to start counting pennies in the neighborhood of $200,000.
