Not everyone who comes to Comic-Con go for the comic books — just as many probably roam the alleys and corners at Jacob Javitz center for their favorite movies and TV shows. This year’s New York Comic Con bring a bunch of interesting offerings for the movie and TV crowd. Here are some that caught our attention:
1. The Walking Dead
Main Stage 1-D, Saturday (6:30 to 7:30 PM)
On Sunday, The Walking Dead returns for its fourth season on AMC. And if you want to get the dirt about what to expect for the upcoming run, there’s no better place to do it than here. No showing of the actual season premiere, but you will get an exclusive sneak preview, as well as sit in on a panel consisting of Andrew Lincoln, Chad Coleman, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Norman Reedus, and the show’s producers. Oh yeah, make sure to line-up early — this one is likely to turn out a big crowd.
2. Warner Bros. Special Pilot Screenings
Empire Stage 1-E, Thursday (6:15 to 8:30 PM)
TV fiends can’t miss this one — a sneak screening of WB’s upcoming hour-long genre dramas for the next TV season. On tap are sneak peek screenings of pilots for two shows, Almost Human and The 100, along with an encore presentation of The Tomorrow People’s pilot episode.
3. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Main Stage 1D, Saturday (5:00 to 6:15 PM)
Granted, the absence of the stars of the show sort of dampens the excitement for this one. Still, with Marvel Head of TV Jeph Loeb on the mic, everyone is sure to get a ton of exclusive information and new footage from the company’s very first live-action TV series. Who’d want to miss that?
4. Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack Movie
1A15, Thursday (6:45 to 8:15 PM)
Everybody loves monster movies and the more ridiculous they are, the better. This one is a Japanese film lifted from the manga Junji Ito, with the mayhem provided by killer sharks with four sharp metal legs. Yep, sharks that walk the streets! Take that, Sharknado. The full movie will be showing (at least, from what we can tell), so this should provide a fun albeit bizarre break from all the… err… fun albeit bizarre things going on in the rest of the show floor.
5. Dracula Screening
1A14, Saturday (6:30 to 7:30 PM)
NBC’s retelling of the Bram Stroker classic stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers. We guess they’ll be screening the pilot for this particular session, hopefully encouraging viewers to tune in for the upcoming 10-season series. In the series opener, we meet Dracula as he arrives in London, posing as an American businessman seeking to bring modern science to Victorian Society. Of course, his real intents lie elsewhere.
6. Chucky 25th Anniversary
Main Stage 1-D, Friday (12:15 to 1:15 PM)
Did you know it’s been 25 years since the original Child’s Play introduced the world to the ever-creepy murdering doll, Chucky? Yeah, time flies indeed. The panel will probably center on Curse of Chucky, the latest addition to the film franchise dropping on DVD and Blu-ray this month, along with each panel guests’ thoughts on the serial-killing doll’s place in the world of horror. Attending are creator Don Mancini and the franchise cast members (Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif Danielle Bisutti, Jennifer Tilly and more).
7. Starz Network Presents
1A23, Friday (6:45 to 8:15 PM)
We don’t know how deep you dig for shows to watch, but if you’ve ever wandered around Starz and enjoyed their programming, then we guess you’ll want to be here. This panel will highlight three shows from the network: the premiering Black Sails and Outlander, along with Da Vinci’s Demons, which is coming back for second season. No sneaks for the upcoming 2014 shows, but cast and producers will be in tow to answer questions.
8. Other notable panels
Obviously, there’s a ton going on at every Comic Con, so if your interests lie elsewhere other than the above, it’s not time to stay home yet. There’s still plenty for TV and movie fans, including panels dedicated to Haven, True Blood (with Kristin Bauer and Lauren Bowles), Once Upon A Time (sneak peek of upcoming episodes and Q&A with producers), Beauty and the Beast (with Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan), Hercules (the upcoming film), Defiance (with Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, and Jaime Murray), Person of Interest (with entire cast), and Sleepy Hollow (with cast and producers).
See you guys there!
