The golden days of muscle cars are a long gone memory, but that doesn’t mean the people who love them have gone the same path. From expensive restored classics to custom-built replicas, gearheads of various persuasions continue to keep the spirit of the muscle car alive. The Equus Bass 770 is a boutique muscle car put together from the ground up, fusing together modern tech with sleek vintage styling.
Built in Detroit just like the classic muscle cars of old, the vehicle is an original design that references some of the most legendary treasures of automotives past. Granted, the name sort of dampens the muscle car image a tad (I mean, c’mon, it shares a name with a Hyundai saloon), but everything else remains faithful to the old school muscle car aesthetic. Heck, they even made sure it made the same scary roar as muscle cars from the 60s and 70s, too.
The Equus Bass 770 is a new school muscle car powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that puts out 640 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 605 pound-feet of torque at 3800 rpm. It can hit speeds of up to 200 mph, with a 0 to 60 time of 3.4 seconds. Since we’re no longer in the 1960s, it gets loaded with a selection of modern performance tech, including magnetic selective ride control, traction control, performance traction management, active handling, and variable-ratio power steering. As with any self-respecting muscle car, it comes fitted with a six-speed manual transmission (although you can opt for a dual-clutch auto, boooo).
Features include a full aluminum bespoke body with carbon fiber inners, an aluminum chassis, long wheelbase and wide tracks, a Brembo braking system, and Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Inside, the cabin is wrapped entirely in leather, frontal and side-impact airbags, and a modern infotainment system. Everything is built by hand.
