DJ controllers are either bulky pieces of equipment or generally uninspiring little USB buggers. Portability or capability — you have to give up one or the other. Not with the Numark DJ2GO, a smallish DJ controller that lets you lay down the tunes while enjoying the feeling of knobs, sliders and buttons at the tip of your fingers.
Sporting the dimensions of a keyboard while weighing just 13 ounces, the device can probably can cram into whatever bag you keep your laptop in, allowing you to hit your gigs with nothing but a single backpack or messenger bag on. Heck, carry it with you in your day job at the food truck and you can turn that street corner into a banging party as soon as the boss steps out for a couple hours.
The Numark DJ2GO is a USB DJ controller for PCs and Macs that can work with any MIDI-capable DJ software (it also comes with Virtual DJ LE Lite if you need one). The panel features a layout that should be familiar to most DJs — a pair of platters, a crossfader, pitch and level controls, two deck control sections for assigning tracks (A and B), master and headphone gain controls, sync and headphone buttons, and mouse-free navigation.
We’re not sure if this is the first USB DJ rig that combines this much portability with actual functionality (Numark seems to claim it is), but it sure looks hella sweet. Plus, it’s a great excuse to bring your Macbook with you to parties (hey, just in case the faded kids need a DJ at the end of the night). Price is $60.
