Three years ago, Radio Flyer released a ride-on replica of the Tesla Cyberquad, giving kids a functional electric ATV they can take across rugged terrains. It’s nice and all, but the near-$2,000 price tag made it a tough proposition for many parents. The Droyd Fury Youth ATV brings the same rugged, off-road, kid-friendly chops in a more affordable package.
Designed for kids ages six and up, the ride-on vehicle delivers exhilarating ATV performance that will let them take on not just the neighborhood streets, but also open fields, backcountry trails, and everything in between. No, it won’t run as fast as a real ATV, but it definitely allows for a more adventure-filled rides compared to your standard kiddie ride-ons.
The Droyd Fury Youth ATV is a ride-on vehicle styled after your typical quad bike. As such, you get the typical quad characteristics, such as handlebar steering, saddle-style seating, and a robust chassis tough enough to take on rugged outdoor terrains. It runs on an electric drivetrain, powered by a 500W motor that can take it to max speeds of 15 mph, which is the same electronically-limited speed most ebikes are set to run on. If that sounds too fast for your kid, you can dial it down so they can’t go past 10 mph, which is probably still quite fast for many worrisome parents.
A 36V lithium-ion battery gives it a range of around eight to 10 miles, which, the outfit claims, should translate to around 45 minutes to an hour of exhilarating adventure rides. Kids will definitely want to make the most of that hour they have, since recharging can take up to eight hours to fill it back up again. Yeah, they won’t be getting back on the trail immediately with this thing in tow.
The Droyd Fury Youth ATV has a chassis tough enough to handle weights of up to 150 pounds, although the dimensions (40 x 24 x 24 inches) are definitely more suited for smaller kids. It has a front and rear suspension system along the undercarriage that allows it to take on unpaved terrain, while pneumatic tubeless wheels provide the necessary traction for taking on dirt, grass, and other outdoor surfaces. Do note, this isn’t a four-wheel drive, so it won’t keep up with a real ATV on more challenging trails, but it’s still plenty capable in a lot of outdoor settings.
The quad is operated using a thumb throttle on the right grip, so kids can easily speed up or slow down as they please, while brake levers on the left and right sides activate the dual disc brakes to deliver the needed stopping power in a pinch. Features include LED headlight and taillights for visibility in low-light, long cushioned seat, key-controlled speed limit, a UL 2272 certification for safety, and a total weight of 90 pounds, so this should be easy enough to load in the boot of most vehicles. Oh yeah, your kids should wear proper safety gear when riding since 15 mph is no joke. Heck, you want them in proper protective gear even when limited at 10mph.
