Station wagons were never supposed to be sexy. They just had to get the job done. While the 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo isn’t exactly your traditional station wagon, it does bring the convenience of one, all while wearing the same aerodynamic lines that are long identified with the marque’s sports cars.
Originally presented as a concept study in 2012, the “sport wagon” combines the sleek lines and sporty performance of the Panamera with the cargo room of the station wagon. Simply put, it’s unlike anything in the badge’s long history, making for that rare sports car that’s perfectly functional as an everyday family vehicle.
The 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo looks like a traditional sports car from the front, all while coming with a wide and contoured rear to accommodate the extra room for all your luggage and supplies. That rear, by the way, includes an oversized D-pillar that transitions to the tail like a coupe and an adaptive spoiler that changes its angle based on the driving mode. With the modified roofline, the car manages to deliver 1,390 liters of storage in the boot, all while providing seating for up to five people with headroom and legroom galore.
Features include Porsche’s 4D chassis control system, three engine options (either the V6 Turbo, V6 Biturbo, or V8 Biturbo), an eight-speed gearbox, and all the usual driving assistance systems. Inside, it comes with the familiar luxury options, along with a 12-inch touchscreen, glassy center console, and touch-sensitive buttons in the dash.
Slated to go on sale end of 2017, pricing for the 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo starts at $96,200.
