Camping chairs are rarely the most comfortable. With portability being the main concern, they’re usually a far cry from what you’ll get from your favorite home lounger. The Mantis claims to challenge that notion, offering a comfy lounging chair that’s as easy to travel with as your favorite camping seaters.
Made by Alite Designs, it actually doesn’t look that comfortable. In fact, most people would probably mistake it for children’s chairs — the kind you’ll pull out when you’ve got a children’s party in the backyard. Don’t let the low profile fool you, though, as the thing can hold burly occupants up to 250 pounds.
The Mantis is folding lounge chair that can pack to size of 17.5 x 5 x 5 inches, allowing you to easily squeeze it into a loaded backpack during outdoor treks. It weighs a mere 2 pounds, as well, so it literally adds very little heft to your camping stash. Seat frame is made from 7075 aluminum, with the canvas constructed out of 210D ripstop nylon fabric, so this is as durable as any camping chair you can find in the market.
According to Alite Designs, the chair’s design is proprietary and there’s nothing in the market currently like it. Personally, I can’t tell how comfortable it looks from the picture, but those folks sitting on them don’t look too strained, so it’s probably good.
Available directly from the Alite Designs website, the Mantis is currently on retail for $120. Don’t forget to let us know if you decide to try it out.
