No other heating appliance can offer the cozy warmth that a fireplace provides. But if your house doesn’t already have one, you probably won’t want to deal with the cost of having a whole new rig installed. This DIY Fireplace Coffee Table could offer a more viable alternative.
Created by Instructables user Jon-A-Tron, it’s coffee table with a fireplace integrated right smack in the center. That’s right, you can watch TV while stretched out on your Steel Drum Sofa with a flame burning right in front of you, keeping things toasty in the living room even in the coldest nights.
Jon-A-Tron’s design uses separate components for each part of the Fireplace Coffee Table, which slot in together using custom-made nuts and bolts for easy assembly and disassembly. It uses hardwood and cement as the primary materials, with an Ignis EB1200, a 1.5-liter ventless ethanol burner, serving as the source of the flames. The ethanol burner comes with a steel lid that you can use to cover it if you want to use the coffee table as a regular flat surface for doing work or holding supplies. Jon claims that during his use, he has triggered neither the smoke alarm nor the carbon monoxide detector in his home, so unless you live in a particularly small place, you should be able to use this without any problems.
Well, no problems unless you have kids or pets. Do note, this thing creates a real, live fire right in the middle of the living room, so having either of those two in the house could make it a little difficult to keep around.
